LabelFlip

Food label scanner · dairy & eggs

Flip it over.

Scan the barcode. One plain card tells you what the words on the front actually mean, whether the certifier's own list names that brand, and whether the thing has been recalled. No score. No letter grade. Every line carries its source.

What one flip gives you

Dairy and eggs. That is the whole app right now — one aisle at a time, each brand read by hand off the certifier's own page.

The claim check

“Grass-fed”, “pasture-raised”, “humane”, “organic” — the card says whether the certifier's published directory actually names that brand, and links the page we read.

The recall check

Every card is checked against the FDA's own food enforcement records. If a recall is open, that beats everything else on the label and the card says so.

The plain-word read

What “natural flavoring” is. Who owns the brand. What a lawsuit over the label actually said. Each line carries a link, or it reads “Source: not available”.

The swap

When something didn't hold up, the card names one that did. If you buy it through our Amazon link we earn a small fee, and the button says so before you tap it.

Four states, and we mean all four

A binary verdict is how a scanner gets it wrong. LabelFlip says what it could and could not see.

  • FoundThe certifier's own directory lists this brand. We name the certifier and link the page.
  • Not in listWe opened that directory and the brand wasn't in it. That is a fact about the directory on the day we looked — not an accusation about the brand.
  • On packThe mark is printed on the package, but the certifier's list doesn't name the brand.
  • Pack not readWe couldn't see the front of the pack. We'd rather say so than guess.

Shipped seed table, 2026-08-22: 28 brands · 44 seals read on a certifier's own site · 10 claims checked and genuinely absent. Directories used: USDA Organic Integrity, Certified Humane, American Humane, the Non-GMO Project, the Regenerative Organic Alliance, the American Grassfed Association, B Lab.

Recall Watch, without a file on you

The obvious build is: the phone uploads what you scanned, the server matches recalls and pushes you. That would make us a company holding a record of what you buy. So we built it the other way round.

The list comes to you

Our server publishes the same recent US food-recall digest to every phone. It is identical for everyone and contains nothing about you. Your phone matches it against your own history, on your own device.

The push says nothing

When new records land, phones get a contentless wake-up — literally {"aps":{"content-available":1}}. It cannot name a product, because our server does not know what you scanned.

The gap we will not hide. Recalls come from the FDA's food enforcement records only. USDA FSIS — which covers meat, poultry and processed egg products — blocks automated requests: measured 2026-08-22, four FSIS endpoints from two different networks with a real browser user-agent returned 403 Access Denied on every attempt. The app names FSIS as unchecked on the card rather than letting a dead source read as “no recall”.

What LabelFlip is not

We are not the certifier. We report what a certifier's own published list said on the date we checked it, and we print that date. A brand missing from a list is not a brand that lied.

LabelFlip is not medical, legal or dietary advice, and it gives no allergen safety verdicts. What you eat is your call, and a doctor's.

There is no score and no letter grade. Four words, and only four: held up, mixed, didn't hold up, not checked yet.
