LabelFlip
Terms of use
Last updated 2026-08-22 · this is the end-user licence agreement for LabelFlip
The part that matters most. LabelFlip reports what a certifier's own published list said on the date we checked it. We are not the certifier, we do not audit farms or factories, and a brand that is missing from a list is not a brand that lied. Nothing in the app is legal, medical or dietary advice, and it gives no allergen safety verdicts.
1. Agreeing to these terms
These Terms of Use are the agreement between you and PLAYRIOT LLC ("PLAYRIOT", "we") for the LabelFlip iPhone app and this website. By downloading or using LabelFlip you accept them and the Privacy Policy. If you do not accept them, do not use the app. You confirm you are at least 13 years old, and that if you are under the age of majority where you live, a parent or guardian agrees on your behalf.
2. Your licence
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use one copy of LabelFlip on Apple devices you own or control, in line with the App Store Terms of Service. You may not copy, sell, rent, sublicense, reverse-engineer, decompile or modify the app, scrape or bulk-download its data, or use it to build a competing dataset. We keep every right not expressly granted here, including all rights in the app, the seed table and the card design.
3. What the claim check actually proves
This is the heart of the product, so it is worth being exact about it.
- FOUND means: on the date printed on the card, we opened that certifier's own published directory and the brand was listed in it. It means nothing about a specific package, batch or SKU unless the card says so.
- NOT IN LIST means: we opened that directory and did not find the brand. That is a fact about a directory on a date. Directories are incomplete, they lag, they list parent companies rather than brands, and they go down. It is not a claim that the brand is lying or that the seal is fake.
- ON PACK means: the mark is printed on the package but the certifier's list does not name the brand.
- PACK NOT READ means: we could not see the front of the package. We would rather tell you that than guess.
The four verdict words — held up, mixed, didn't hold up, not checked yet — are a summary of those states plus the recall check. They are not a safety rating, a nutrition score or a quality grade, and no number or letter grade is implied. Every line carries the page we read and the day we read it; check us.
Recall coverage, and the gap in it. Recall information comes from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's openFDA food enforcement records. It does not include USDA FSIS — the agency that covers meat, poultry and processed egg products — because FSIS blocks automated requests: on 2026-08-22 four FSIS endpoints, from two different networks, with an ordinary browser user-agent, returned 403 Access Denied every time. The app names FSIS as an unchecked source on the card rather than letting a dead feed read as "no recall". Never treat the absence of a recall in LabelFlip as proof a product is not recalled. For anything that matters, check fda.gov and fsis.usda.gov directly, or call the FDA on 1-888-INFO-FDA (1-888-463-6332).
4. Not advice
LabelFlip is an information tool for general use. It is not medical, nutritional, dietary or legal advice, it is not a medical device, and it must not be used to make an allergy or food safety decision. It deliberately gives no allergen verdicts. If you have an allergy, a medical condition, or any doubt at all, read the physical package and ask a qualified professional. Ingredient lists and formulations change without notice, and the package in your hand is always the authority over anything we show you.
5. LabelFlip Pro — subscription, billing and cancellation
The app is free to use at its core: five dairy or egg cards a month, always the full card, with re-scans and out-of-aisle cards not counted and recalls always shown even over the quota. LabelFlip Pro is an optional auto-renewing subscription that adds unlimited cards, an offline cache of every card, Recall Watch push and the pantry insight.
- Price and term. $14.99 per year, or $2.99 per month. Prices are in US dollars, vary by region, and are shown in your own currency in the app before you buy.
- Free trial. Eligible new subscribers get 7 days free on the yearly plan. The monthly plan has no trial. You are not charged before a trial ends.
- Auto-renewal. The subscription renews automatically at the end of each term until you cancel. Your Apple ID is charged when the trial ends and at the start of each renewal period. Renewal is charged within 24 hours before the current period ends.
- Cancellation. Cancel any time, at least 24 hours before the current period ends, at Settings › [your name] › Subscriptions on your iPhone. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
- Family Sharing. Both plans are Family Sharing enabled, so one purchase covers your Apple Family group.
- Refunds. Purchases are handled by Apple and are subject to Apple's refund policy. We cannot issue refunds ourselves; request them through Apple.
- If a plan lapses, the app returns to the free five-card allowance. Cards already in your History stay on your phone.
- What counts as a card. A new dairy or egg product counts. Re-scanning something you have already flipped does not, and neither does an out-of-aisle product we have not done yet. Searching a product by name does count.
This mirrors the disclosure on the in-app paywall: "7 days free, then $14.99 per year automatically. Auto-renews until cancelled. Cancel anytime in Settings."
6. Photos and reports you send us
When LabelFlip cannot find a product you can photograph the pack and send it in. That is always your choice.
- You keep your photos. You grant PLAYRIOT a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to store your submitted photos, read them, and publish what the label says — the product name, brand and ingredient text — as a product row other people's scans can read. That licence covers exactly that use and nothing else.
- Your photo is not published. Submitted images are never shown to other users. Only the facts read off the label become a card.
- What you may send. Photographs of a food package you are holding, and nothing else. Do not send pictures of people, faces, documents, anything you did not photograph yourself, anything you do not have the right to send us, or anything unlawful, hateful or obscene. Do not put personal information in a report note.
- We can refuse anything. We may reject, remove or correct a submission or a published row at any time, for any reason. A rejected submission's photos are deleted at that moment.
- Deleting them. Settings › Data & Privacy › Delete my submissions removes your images and text from our storage and database. See the Privacy Policy for exactly what remains and why.
- Accuracy is yours. A community-read card is marked as such on its source line, and as unverified until a person has checked it. Do not rely on one.
- Fair use. Submissions are capped per device and per network. Automated or bulk submission is not allowed.
7. Reporting something
Because community-read cards are shown to other people, the app has a report control on the card. Use it if you see something inaccurate, offensive or out of place, and we will review it and can remove or correct the row. If you would rather email: [email protected].
8. Third-party data and links
LabelFlip shows data from Open Food Facts (used under the Open Database License), USDA FoodData Central, openFDA, and the published directories of independent certifiers. Those organisations do not endorse LabelFlip and are not responsible for it, and we are not responsible for their content, availability or accuracy. When a card names a swap, the button opens Amazon with our Amazon Associates tag and we earn a small commission if you buy — the button says so before you tap it, the price is Amazon's, and the purchase is between you and Amazon.
9. Availability
We may change, suspend or discontinue features, aisles or the whole service. LabelFlip depends on services we do not control; when one is down the app says the source was unavailable rather than pretending it found nothing.
10. No warranty
LabelFlip is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted or error-free, that any card is complete or current, or that any certifier directory we read is itself accurate or up to date.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, PLAYRIOT LLC will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss arising from a purchase, dietary or health decision you make on the basis of the app. Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us for LabelFlip in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
12. Apple
This agreement is between you and PLAYRIOT LLC, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for LabelFlip or its content and has no obligation to provide support for it. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price; to the maximum extent permitted by law Apple has no other warranty obligation. You confirm you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as terrorist-supporting, and are not on any U.S. Government restricted-parties list.
13. Ending it
You can stop using LabelFlip at any time by deleting it (cancel any subscription separately, through Apple). We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms, in particular section 6. Sections 3, 4, 6, 8, 10, 11 and 12 survive.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California and of the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If you are a consumer, nothing here takes away any right you have under the mandatory law of the country where you live.
15. Changes
We may revise these terms. If we make a material change we will update the date at the top and ship the new text with the next app version. Continuing to use LabelFlip after a change takes effect means you accept the revised terms.
